LAG “Central Istria” together with The Development Company of Parnon S.A. as the lead partner and additional partners from Italy and Spain has started the preparation for the implementation of the project Malvasia Myth through the new Programming Period CLLD/LEADER 2014-2020. The aim of this cooperation is the emergence and spread of wine culture, as well as the interconnection of the tourist identity of the regions with their traditional products that have quality, reputation and are directly linked to the region for the development of gastronomic tourism. The partnership includes partners from Malvasia wine production areas and will be focused on the following actions: research and documentation, the creation of transnational brand Malvasia, electronic promotion, exchange of visits, events.
After the initial meeting of the partners in December 2017 in Monemvasia, Greece, partners met again from 17th to 20th of May in Parma, Italy with LAG del Ducato sconsri as the host. In addition to the project planning workshops and the tour of the important wine areas of the region, the event included the 23rd edition of the Malvasia Festival, which brought together many wine producers from Italy and partner countries. LAG “Central Istria” presented its’ region with malvasia wine of some of the most know producers – Damijanić, Benvenuti, Fakin, Arman, Ferenac together with Pazinski cukerančić. Partners had the chance to taste the wines, combine the wines with the traditional pastry as well as see and experience first hand its’ preparation which was acquainted as the Croatian intangible cultural good. The next meeting is planned for the spring of 2019 in Istria, Croatia during the famous Vinistra fair in Poreč.

The 2nd International ENSURE partner meeting was held in Motovun, Croatia from 11th to 13th of April. The event gathered 35 international participants from Slovenia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, Bulgaria, Latvia, Greece, Montenegro, Italy, Hungary and Romania with LAG »Central Istria« as the host of the event. During a three-day programme, partners dealt with different topics falling into the general subject of the event – »Common Agricultural Policy From a New Perspective«.
As part of the projects’ search of ways to fight euroscepticism, partners tried to strengthen their EU values through a debate. They split into teams to present different point on the thesis regarding the position of local products in a free EU market. The debate took place in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Anton Štifanić in Poreč and students and professors also joined in. This was a good chance for LAG Central Istria to present its projects aimed at increasing the consumption of fresh local products in educational institutions. The presentation and debate were finished with a joined lunch based on products from local producers and prepared by the students of the school. Partners also shared their experiences on rural parliaments and local action groups in their countries thanks to presentations of the representatives of Croatian Rural Development Network and ODRAZ – Sustainable Community Development.
The Croatian National Contact Point for Europe for Citizens Programme also joined in to give an overview of the so-far conducted activities and results of the on-going programming period 2014-2020.
Partners got the chance to experience Istria through a tour around Motovun- famous for its unique position, beautiful views and rich history, get to know Istrian culture through one of the most valuable accomplishments of Istrian medieval painting – fresco called „Dance of the Dead“ in Beram and try some of the most recognizable Istrian flavours – Istrian wines – malvazija and teran, truffles, prosciutto and cheese.

LAG “Central Istria” is the host of the 2nd International Partner Meeting that will be held in Pazin, Poreč, Motovun and Žminj in the period of 11th to 13th of April 2018 with the following AGENDA
The event will gather 36 partners from Slovenia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia, Greece, Montenegro, Italy and Hungary. The event will be dedicated to two main topics – workshop “Local Food – Perspectives and Challenges for the Future” during which LAG “Central -Istria” will present two of its’ projects aimed at enhancing the consumption of local food from local farmers in kindergartens and schools following a debate in which all partners will participate. The second topic will be a conference “Rural Roots – Building Strong Rural Communities” where partners will discuss the role of local action groups and rural parliaments in involved countries.
The national contact point for Europe for Citizens Programme will be joining the event as well to present the so-far conducted activities and results of the programming period 2014-2020.
