In the period from 20 to 22 October, 2017. Circolo in Pula was the host of the event “Pazi što jedeš”, which also contains one of the largest eco fairs in Croatia. This year, the theme of the event was “Knowledge and Taste” – knowledge transfer and flavor preservation, with particular emphasis on researching, collecting and documenting information on traditional and healthy recipes characteristic of Istria. LAG “Central Istria” took part in the event on Friday, 20th of October, 2017, with a workshop on the traditional dessert called “Pazinski Cukerančić”. Visitors were able to hear and see everything about the specifics, the process of making and the initiatives for listing the “Pazinski Cukerancić” on the list of the intangible cultural assets of the Republic of Croatia. Davorka Šajina (agrotourism Ograde) was in charge of the practical part, visitors could see on the spot all the steps in the preparation of the dough and the way of making and baking the “Pazinski Cukerančić”, and finally of course tasting this dessert.

LAG “Central Istria” has started implementing a new international project named ENSURE which stands for: European Network for the Cohesion and Solidarity in Rural Areas. ENSURE project has successfully passed European Commission’s criteria in June 2017. This enabled partners to cooperate for the next two years as an international Network. The partners come from 13 countries – 12 of them from the European Union, and 2 from Serbia and Montenegro. Thanks to this great mixture, the partners will be able to exchange experiences with regard to different EU policies, like EU structural funds, EU education programs, or the Common Agriculture Policy. Six of the partners are public bodies, five are federations and bodies representing local authorities, one is a regional authority, and 2 are NGOs. This is another asset, because it will bring together public authorities and civil society organizations.ENSURE addresses day-to-day issues which are prevalent for rural citizens, such as: local development, cross-border mobility of agricultural workers, or food safety. By bringing up issues that acquire great interest among citizens, ENSURE can hit such questions as: the decline of support of the EU, Euroscepticism and the EU citizenship. (more…)
