The Malvasia Myth: Partner meeting in Istria

This year’s Vinistra was the occasion for the gathering of international partners on the project “The Malvasia Myth”. LAG “Središnja Istra” as host hosted representatives of partners from Greece and Italy and introduced them to the area, specifics and importance of Malvazi wine in the Istrian County during a two-day stay.
The project “The Malvasia Myth”, financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, aims to valorize and brand all wines that are today called Malvasia. The project will explore the cultural-historical context of the appearance of Malvasia, its social meaning and local narratives, as well as details about the local varieties that bear that name. All this will be the basis for the creation of the international brand Malvazija and the international network of producers and related organizations that will contribute to the promotion of the area and the winemakers who produce it, and consequently strengthen the position of Istria as a quality wine region.
As part of Vinistra, with the professional guidance of a sommelier, a master class tasting was held with the wines of the involved partners with the aim of recognizing the key features, similarities and differences of the included wines, and during the three-day duration of the fair, the partners presented their wines at a joint stand in Vinistra, and thus visitors got the chance to taste the Malvasias of partners from Greece and Italy, but also from other areas that are proud of the production of this wine variety.
